چکیده

Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) are two emerging and complementary concepts that can be considered as key players in the virtual networks world. In particular, SDN allows managing different network services through abstraction of higher-level functionality, while NFV leverages the use of virtualization technologies to virtualize specific network functions. Although SDN and NFV are considered standalone technologies, they are often put in relationship, because their connections, and overlapped use cases. In this paper, we present a short survey providing an overview of the two different models, highlighting the complementarities, together with the standardization activities and the open source community efforts to make these two paradigms connected to each other. Keywords—Software Defined Networking; SDN; Network Function Virtualization; NFV;

An L2-in-L3 tunneling technology plays an important role in network virtualization based on the concept of Software-Defined Networking (SDN). VXLAN (Virtual eXtensible LAN) and NVGRE (Network Virtualization using Generic Routing Encapsulation) protocols are being widely used in public cloud datacenters. These protocols resolve traditional VLAN problems such as a limitation of the number of virt...

Deploying a virtual network function over a software defined network infrastructure: experiences deploying an access control VNF in the University of Basque Country’s OpenFlow enabled facility

Network Function Virtualisation is one of the last buzzwords in the networking scenario. Although this functionality is many times related with Software Defined Networks this is not compulsory. For some, NFV can be seen as a new name for an assembly of known technologies, but substituting hardware boxes by Virtual Machines in the dynamic scenario of the slice creation in SDN based infrastructur...

Research and Implementation on Virtual Network Mapping Mechanism based on SDN

Network virtualization technology allows multiple logical networks or network applications to run simultaneously on the underlying physical network. The virtual network mapping is the key method to realize network virtualization. Virtual tenant network (VTN) is a new technique for construction of multi-tenant network in software definition networking (SDN) network. VTN mapping mechanism is a co...
